Star Wars - Knight of the Old Rebulic 2

Well I have just finished the above game (well take about 30mins off the time stamp of the post and it’ll be closer). So what did I think of KOTOR2? Well, it was a mixed bag, I mean I have played it alot… it said 38hours approx on the save game time so add a couple more and thats not bad since I bought it on the 11th of Feb. Which hence means it was fun, there wasn’t too much thinking, some nice puzzles and some really cracking features, such as taking apart stuff and creating new items and upgrades for the weapons (and the lightsabers :)).
Graphics were rather nice, were not talking Doom 3 or Half Life 2 here but they did their job amd barring a couple of graphics glitches, they were consitent. The sound was ok, although I think the problems I had were more to do with running EAX through 2 speakers rather than 5.1. Since the game is based around the pen and paper RPG system called d20 I found it easy to get grips with the character development systems and such since I’m already used to it when gaming. Combat plays a big part in these games and after I got a certain combination of powers and two lightsabers I could perform whole scale slaughter in 2 turns of combat. without even lifting a glowing blade to them. Or turning myself in a blur of furious blade action if I so felt teh need brought down most opponents rapidly and with little challange… I think normal may actually be easy… if you get my drift, seasoned gaming people should turn it up a notch or twp.
The plot… well, hold on second… I tell you what I am going to put the next bit in black text so those of you who have not played it will not see any spoilers. (if you want to read it just select the text with you mouse).
The genreal plot is, well pulp sci-fi. This is not a problem as its Star Wars, yet it did not feel as solid, or as well thought out as I would have imagined it. I would have also liked to have been able to talk with the various party members at the end and also to fly around the various planets to tie up loss plots and threads which I never finsihed… Instead after almost 40 hours of gam play all I get is some talky stuff with Keira, and then a chessy flying off into the sunset ending. It was a bit of a whimper rather than a bang.
I don’t think I’ll replay this one, it was fun and seeing how differently it plays being a nasty dark jedi wuld be fun rather than the so holy it hurts one I seemed to have played this time round. You never know, I may replay it if just to pass some time until my next gaming challange comes out.
So if I had to give it a precentage score it would be 75%… really fun and addictive, but may leave a slighty dry feeling in the mouth.

I really enjoyed KOTOR 1 - but I waited a long time to buy it (for the price to drop). Will probably play KOTOR II when it’s a bit cheaper. If it’s like the first one at all it should be good.
