UK Election 2005
OK, this is not exactly new news but I have been meaning to at least post up the fact it is happening… so we have an election, oh joys. The worst part of this one is I have no excuse not to vote this time round, I have complained too bitterly, moaned to excessively just to sit and do nothing. Which means reading manifestos, weighing up choices, deciding on issues, and probably having to choose to lesser of many evils.
I have to admit that I like a number of policies from various parties and in a perfect world all my various preferred policies would be in one party I could vote for… but they’re not. So what next, do I vote just to get rid of Phoney-Tony, do I vote for people I don’t like just to get Labour out? I think for me its gonna have to come down to strategic voting, I hate to admit it (unless someone else has a better idea). I need to find the party whose policies I have the least problems with (or agree with more than I disagree with) and have no HUGE objection to any policy or statement and then determine if my vote will count. So far in my studies it has come to down to one party, wither or not its stays as this party over the election campaign as manifestos, policies, and statements are released I must wait and see and decided ultimately on election day.
Anyway, on the election side of things a few links for the interested:
- BBC Coverage of the 2005 Election
- BBC Election in Scotland Coverage
- Party Comparisons a good page which allows you to see the difference between various parties at a glance (including area specfic ones, i.e. Scotland, Wales etc)
- Not Apathetic - a site to say why you are not going to vote.
I’m not going to link to an party’s web sites during this (unless of course something major comes up) because I want the site to remain party politics free… ok, I think I’ll actually put just one link to what I think is one of the most important parties we have today in the uk = LINK
. At any rate we each have a choice and we each (provided we are of age etc) have a vote and we really should use it if we can.
On a civil duty related note, I’ve got called up for Jury Duty… which raises a lot of issues for me with swearing oaths, justice systems and the like from various things I have been looking into lately. I don’t have any option at the moment but to do it (its not until May anyway, and I of course can’t talk about the case when it happens), although that does not mean I cannot still look into my feelings over the idea of giving oaths, and the courts system in the mean time.
Anyway, laters people, got stuff to do. I may try and get another review up soon, probably either a film or DVD one. Oh and I think the pages feature now works ok… we shall see as I add more, although I thought comments where allowed, obviously not (even though the options are all on… odd)
Remember to keep the peace you must fight the system ![]()

Thanks for the link to the Monster Raving Loony party - I’m half tempted to vote for them! …or would be if they had a candidate in my area.
