Make Poverty History March July 2nd 2005
Well I actually made it to the march (trust me this is an achievement in itself).
It was really amazing just to see so many people turn up in support of such an important cause. The Salvation Army had a good presence there, but it could have been bigger if all who wanted to make were there. A friend of mine and I guessed that just from the Edinburgh ones who were there (there were a good number of non-Edinburgh Salvationist’s who made it) we could have easily had another 40 people. From the various reports I have read, the estimated figure is nearly 250,000… and that’s only for the march, that’s not including the numerous Live8 concerts that happened at the same time (it would be cool to get a grand total for the march and all of Saturdays Live 8 concerts). It was just such an amazing experience and one I am glad to have taken part in.
There isn’t much else to really tell that has not been covered in the news, it was peaceful, the police were really good and helpful, it was hot and very sunny… erm… I wasn’t as tired as I expected (well not until I stopped for lunch afterwards). Lets just hope and pray that it does make a difference and the politicians actually listen and do something.
