Rapid Summer Movies Reviews - The Complete Run Down

OK, here is the run down (Charlie and the Chocolate comes out later) of the summer movies that I have seen.

War of the Worlds:
Surprisingly enjoyable film. Speilberg did the right thing and focused on the personal effects of the invasion. The alien machines were simply beautiful and they had a real sense of being a threat and a danger. The only major complaint is that the ending was a bit too “we need a happy ending, I wont say more in case I spoil it for people. Its not the novel by a long stretch but it is still a good film

Madagascar:
Dreamworks have scored another hit, the film may be more slanted at kids than say Shrek, but it is still a funny and enjoyable movie. The animation was superb and because they weren’t trying for ultra-realism it made it more enjoyable. I was surprised that Chris Rock and the guy who plays Ali G did not annoy me as much as they do normally. If you love Shrek and Pixar’s movies then give this one a shot.

Fantastic Four:
Hmm… part of me did not like this movie, or to be more accurate I did not like a part of this movie. Any part which did not have the Thing and the Human Torch in them playing off each other. If there is one thing this film managed to capture was their relationship. I think the casting for majority was spot on, except for Jessica Alba who was simply eye-candy, sorry but I cannot see her as an amazing genetic scientist. Its fun, its silly, its not a patch on the majority of the recent comic adaptations (Daredevil and Elektra withstanding) but worth at least seeing if you’ve got nothing else on. The Thing should have been CG as he looked fake in places but it was not as bad as I feared.
(6 out of 10) - bordering on a 7 because of the Thing and the Torch

Kung Fu Hustle:
Hong Kong action comedy, to be blunt, it is so funny I stopped breathing at some points. Its now merged into one amorphous blob of laughter in my mind almost impossible to pick out scenes and moments as they become one. If you like action films, don’t hate subtitles, and like to laugh GO NOW!!!

Batman Begins:
A most excellent film, I felt it captured the feel of what I think a Batman movie should be, a worthy Batman film and is ranked as high (if not in some ways higher) as the Burton films. The one big problem (as some people see it) is annoying if you allow it to be, I try my best to look past it and enjoy the movie (although I agree it is a problem and could have been fixed by changing one name).

Sin City:
Violent Stylistic Film Noir. A modern cinematic classic, its visual style screams the work of Frank Miller and truly looks and feels like the graphic novels. If you want to know what to expect from sin City watch the opening scene and it sets the feel from the get go.

Mr and Mrs Smith:
A surprisingly enjoyable and fun film, a light hearted action comedy with laughs, explosions, guns and Miss Jolie in leather… what other reason do you need ;)

Star Wars Episode 3:
Ignoring the hype surrounding movies is hard, trying not to just adore this movie because Vader is in it is harder. At last Lucas found his feet again, this is better than 1 and even 2 and may even prove to be as good as the original series. A few moments that grated, a few which felt as if they were just added to tweak the fan boy gene in people
