Days 10 to 13 - Movin’ ‘n’ Shakin’

Okay not really been up to much of late… no really… well… in comparison at least.

Let see, on Thursday I decided to have a quiet day in and recover from having a “busy” time of it (well that and to try and get the new Wacom I bought working, which it doesn’t so I have to take it back Monday… which should be fun). I did manage to get the majority of my photo’s online (as the updated post below says), caught up on some websites and watched some TV I had brought with me… oh and I experienced my first earthquake. It was quite cool actually, probably because it was a small one.

On Friday it rained all morning and early evening and as the places I wanted to see were outside I didn’t got out until the evening when I met up with Norman and went to the opening match of the Japanese Rugby League. It was not exactly an exhilarating match but it was fun to get out and watch some rugby again, especially since it was in Tokyo.

Saturday Kauro took me to the Tokyo National Museum (and a couple of shops) the museum was set in the beautiful Ueon Park which if I get time I want to go back to as it has a couple of other museums. The one down side to the visit was quite a few of the attractions in the museum had “no photo’s allowed” markers… not that it turned out to matter as every photo I took inside (because I wasn’t allowed a flash) was so blurred as to be unusable… which sucked.

Lets see that brings me up to date with Sunday where I went to a small Salvation Army with the Yoshida’s, the meeting was, as you’d expect, in Japanese but since Makoto was leading the meeting I had no translation so it was quite an interesting experience taking part in a service where I couldn’t read the PowerPoint or understand what was being said, that being said it was still enjoyable.

Unfortunately I found out this morning that my dad has been ill and been in hospital for a couple of days with pneumonia, my mum only told me after he was out and doing a bit better so I wouldn’t end up worrying. I mean seriously, me worry? Ahem… yeah… I’m actually quite glad she did wait because I would have worried that I couldn’t be over there and then. Anyway, hopefully he will listen and not do too much too quickly. Thankfully from what my mum said he is doing better but is letting mum do the Sunday meetings which is big task and so should give him some time to recover a bit more.

Anyway, things are still on course for me returning to the UK on Thursday afternoon, I’m looking at flying up to Glasgow the same day. I have begun looking for work but no joy so far (not that I’d expected any). I have also started looking for a flat in Edinburgh, I have seen a few I like but I can only go for them if I have a job (and one that pays a semi-decent wage). So it looks like you unlucky people in Edinburgh will have me back soon enough, but not yet. That being said I do plan on popping over to Edinburgh as soon as I can after I get to catch up with people (and reinstate my comic order :))

Take care people.

EDIT: More photos (and even some movies) now uploaded to my gallery. Enjoy.

  1. Oh, without translation you spend a time in the meeting, how difficult it might have been!

I’m praying for your father’s recovery. And also I understand that for a busy Corps Officer, a short time of ill could be a blessed time of rest though his/her partner shall be burdened……

Bon Voyage until you safely board to Edinburgh!

    Major Makoto Yamaya

  2. Sorry to hear about your dad, give him my best next time you talk to him.

I understand your photo despair with museums, many of my China and a few of my Orkney (now up on my gallery) photos didn’t come out for exactly the same reason. Try dropping the apperture f number (low numbered f means a wide open aperture which means more light, if less sharp photographs with poor depth of field) and reducing the exposure length to stop motion blur (remember its in 1/X of a second so use 1/200 instead of 1/20). Playing with that gave me some usefull photos that I could manipulate in to acceptability, though its still not great without a tripod or even a monopod.

Give us a call sometime when your back and we will go out for lunch.
