WoW Regionals

This will mean little to many of you, but I shall continue never the less.

Well today (actually yesterday now, as it was on Sunday) I was at the Scottish Regional Tournament for the World of Warcraft TCG (keep forgetting that its not a CCG as Wizards of the Coast copyrighted the phrase, grr). There were only eight of us in a room of around 60 Yu-Gi-Oh TCG players (age range between about 9 and 20ish, that is the Yu-Gi-Oh people not the WoW lot, we were a good bit older)… anyway… I did okay, for me that is as I have a disastrous Vs history in tournaments.

I chose to play Dizdamona (an alliance warlock deck). There were three rounds, each round was a best of three. First round up against Elendril I won 2-0 in some well fought games but I usually had teh upper hand having a number of the nasty ongoing Warlock abilities in play (first game had 3 Corruptions with a Chromatic Cloak :)) … I then found out that this was his first game of WoW, kinda took the edge out of the victory for me a tad (not saying I’m still not glad I won, he was a good player). Next up I lost badly in round two, 0-2, I was up again a Ta’zo deck which was brutally spec’d for quick fire damage and ferocity allies. Next was a Dizdamona vs Dizdamona against Iain who works at Black Lion. The first game went well and was hard fought but I managed to win, then I lost the next two so the last round went 1-2, losing the last game to the echoing cry of “Leeeeeeeeeroy Jeeeeenkins!”.

However, this meant I placed 5th overal, the top 4 are off sometime to the nationals. I am pleased with my performance and think it has helped me deck ideas. As for prizes, I got an extended art Arcanite Reaper, a play mat, and two boosters, which for a £5 entry fee was not too bad (the booster alone would have cost £6).

Afterwards we had a 5 player Lazy Peon tournament for which I threw together a Omedus the Punisher priest deck. The first game went really well causing my opponent, warrior deck, to quit as I healed the damage he dealt as quickly as he dealt it. Next two games did not go so well and I lost them taking my normal place on the bottom of the ladder, however since the other four players were the four who came in the top four in the main tournament I don’t feel so bad :) Even coming in last I still got 2 extended art Frost Shocks and 3 booster (its entry fee was only £3), in which I at long last managed to get an Infernal.

All in all a fun day, met some new people, saw some I hadn;t seen a while, and had a really sub-par burger :P
