On the 25th of March 1807 slavery was “abolished” in the UK, however, human traffiking is still going on, and is still a major source of wealth for crime, and in many ways, it has been pushed under the carpet by the west as it fuels our growth and consumerist society. Of course we are a civilised country and people are not property here, sure there may be some, but not that many.

The truth is, hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of humans are bought and sold every day as if they are nothing more than a crop, or a resource to be used, abused, and discarded. In this country men, women, and children are victims of human traffiking, slavery, or worse. These people do not ask to be treated like this, they did not choose this, yet we can easily fall into the trap of tricking ourselves into thinking they did.

We can do something about it, William Wilberforce in the 1800’s did. We have been indoctrinated into thinking that one person can’t do anything. Well I believe differently, all it takes is one person, one person to stand up and say no, to never give up, always persevere, and stand firm. Then more will follow, those too scared, or initially unwilling, to stand up. One will become many, and things can, and will, change.

I believe people should be free, human traffiking MUST be stopped.

Of course, the real question is, do you care enough? It doesn’t take much, a signature here, a donation to help the victims there, some compassion, some hope?

Or we can just ignore it, rationalise it, accept it. I mean, it not like any of this our fault, or even our concern. They’re just not as important as our cosy, self contained, “tidy”, little world. God forbid we actually cared about someone who we had never met, or even dwelt on the knowledge that at this moment, in this country children are being bought and sold, used, abused, and discarded as pieces of flesh or that in some other country people are forced to work and if they don’t they are beaten, raped, and killed.

Its simple.

Its quite clear, at least as far as I am concerned.
