Ruined Summer

Thats a bad pun really…

I have really enjoyed going round various heritage sites this summer with Andy and not only taking photograph’s but learning about the area and its past. That and it beats the pants of being stuck inside playing games or watching TV. So in case you missed them, here are the albums:

Tantallon Castle
Direlton Castle
Cairnpapple
Linlithgow Palace
Melrose Abbey
Dryburgh Abbey
Crichton Castle

Not bad 7 sites in 5 Saturdays, and I am hoping I may get at least one more visit out of the summer/early autumn but I’m not holding my breath.

My reason for pointing this out is that I will hopefully be removing all of my galleries at some point in the near future to reupload a more portfolio aimed gallery, in which there will still be photographs but fewer and at a higher resolution. This is mainly because I need somewhere I can point either clients (as if) and also tutors (if I ever get round to applying to college), that and also a restart would allow a better look and feel to the whole thing.

Anyway, enjoy.

EDIT: Managed to go to two new places this weekend, went to Craigmillar Castle (literally beside Craigmillar and Niddrie!) and Hailes Castle.

  1. I love castles, it has to be said, and I loved the photos you took.
Chricton castle is my absolute favorite - if I were ever to get married, and could afford it, I’d want it to be there, at least for some of the photos.

2007_0909CrichtonCastle0046.JPG - imagine for a second you’re a four year old boy. And mom is standing below where you’re sticking your HEAD out of that hole along with your almost three year old sister. With a huge grin on your face.
Yep - my kids definatly know how to stop my heart. :)

  2. Not sure if we will get anything in the next few weeks or not, but hopefully time for one more. If we get a good day I still want to do Hermitage castle.

When we were at Dryburgh (I think it was, might have been melrose) there was a wedding on and I asked how much it cost. It wasn’t actually that bad, a couple of hundred, no more than you would pay at a decent church.

I can confirm Crichton has seats for that kind of event as I saw them in a storage room when we were there. :)
