Illustrated Bible

After receiving a comment on one of my artworks I have decided to attempt creating an Illustrated Bible with each image reflecting either a passage or a story. For example, reflecting Matthew 11:28 I created this.

Now to do this I am aiming to have at least one, preferably two images per book of the bible, however I do need help selecting passages and stories that would make interesting and thought provoking images. So please leave your comments here, and PLEASE feel free to share this with friends etc who may be able to come up with ideas (where possible I will give credit for selected passages).

As comments/suggestions come in I will update this master list, and also when I complete an image I will link to it from here. The [passage] links take you to Bible Gateway and a parallel look at the relevant portion of scripture, I have chosen the NIV, New King James, and The Message to give a comparison.

You never know this may end up having its own website (doubt it but a man can dream) :) In the mean time you can keep track on my progress by using twitter, I will try and use the tag #IBP on any  relevant updates.

    Adam, not that you’re looking to do cartoony things but just as a thought, the Walk through the Bible Seminars (that Graham Mizon did here) sell review cards with a picture and key word for each book of the bible. These tend to be more like catchphrase diagrams (See the Exodus version for this at http://www.bible.org.uk/online_images/51.htm) but try include the main themes of each book.
    Also, a slightly different note, my friend just bought the Manga Bible which is a comic book of the new testament. It has the more ‘exciting’ stories so is not complete!

    Afternoon or is it morning?

    A few wee suggestions, and all in a random order, so please forgive me!

    Story of the rich young man - use the account in Mark’s gospel as it is the only one with the line “jesus looked at him and loved him” - i just get blown away by that every time - imagine jesus looking at you, scary but awesome!!

    the story of the prodigal son

    oh the bit where elijah faces up to ahab and the propehts of baal in the almighty showdown on the mountain, the one with the fire and water

    jesus in the desert, 40 days and 40 nights

    oh the road to emmaus

    noahs ark - (of course would expect to see every type of animal in the known universe to feature!! ;) )

    moses - the bit with the plagues, then the escape bit - parting the red sea etc.,

    intrigued to see what you do with song of songs - perhaps a picture of a gazzelle?

    the beatitudes - think simon and garfunkle!

    oh, and what about the holy spirit descending at pentecost

    Ah, yeah Sam, its probably because some of the work by other artists on DeviantArt is, well, graphic to say the least
